My why

I have chosen to officially launch my blog today in honor of International Women’s Day! I have been working so incredibly hard on the “behind the scenes” work of building Reign Doula Services, that I am now in a place of creating a community and building connections-hence starting this blog.

But WHY?

A moment of transparency - Through my own journey to parenthood (pregnancy loss, fertility struggles, pregnancy after loss, labor and delivery, and the whirlwind of the postpartum period,) I have an awareness of the importance of having a supportive group of people surrounding this time of life.

Even thinking back through my labor and delivery (unmedicated vaginal birth turned medicated, turned cesarean,) which was a positive and beautiful experience, there are parts that even with my knowledge and own research (pre doula trained) I felt confident and aware of what can happen in the process of labor. Yet, once transition hit, I lost control, I forgot everything I knew I wanted to do to get me through. I’m saying this because I wish I would have also had a doula for extra support, because even with knowledge that support is valuable.

So, here’s my why in becoming a doula: I wish to help pregnant women connect with an inner strength that they sometimes can forget that they posses (especially when in the thick of it). I wish to help partners in the labor room feel confident in their ability to help their laboring loved one. I wish to make a difference in families.

I am grateful to Erica (owner of Nona Childbirth Education & Counseling) for giving me the tools I need to prosper in this field. I am grateful to the many people I have connected with who has and is helping me build something great within Reign Doula Services (The Connection Exchange, Lactation consultants, Midwives, Chiropractors and more). I am grateful to my family and who have been so supportive during this transitional time. And I am grateful for my future clients, thank you for entrusting me with caring for you and those most precious to you. You all are truly amazing.

Yours Truly,

Kalen
